No matter which plan you have in mind for this year’s family photo, choosing the right outfits can be difficult. As photographers, we have seen some stylish and wonderfully (and some not so wonderfully) coordinated family outfits. We are not here to judge, but here are a few tips to make sure you, and your family, look your very best.
Tip 1: Color
When preparing your family for your photo session, consider color. What colors should you not wear? Avoid the “highlighter colors” as these are some of the worst offenders in a family photo. Remember the yellow highlighter you used in school? Now imagine that color right next to your face. It is not very pretty, is it? Instead, think about what shades look best on you. Colors that you feel comfortable with on a day to day basis are the best choice. Give some consideration to your hair color, eye color, and skin tone. Consider selecting complimentary colors and natural shades. For a cohesive look, try and limit the color palette to a few focal colors.
Tip 2: Pattern
The second tip is to pay attention to the type of patterns your family is planning to wear in the pictures. Shirts that have designs such as words, logos, or drawings can be extremely disruptive to the cohesive look. Also avoid bold patterns, as these take the attention away from you and your family’s faces. Forego identical outfits in favor of similar styles and prints. Something classic and eternal will stand the test of time, giving you an image, you can proudly display.
Tip 3: Fit
Finally, be very aware of how your clothing fits. You want to choose clothing which is comfortable during those hot days, but not constraining enough to prevent you from posing naturally. You will want to wear something that you can comfortably sit in. Avoid clothing that is too wide or loose, as these clothing items can catch the wind and change your shape.
ip 4: Just have fun!
Most importantly, relax and have fun. Nervousness and tension shows through the photos. Don't think of this as a structured, planned event, as your pictures will turn out best when you allow us to capture your family naturally. we try to capture your family in naturally. Remember, this is family time. Take this opportunity to relax and unwind with the people you love with a beautiful backdrop. So take a deep breath, try to have fun, and remember that our team is here to make you look your very best.
If you keep these four "What To Wear" tips in mind, you can organize great outfits for your next family photo shoot. Most importantly, avoid bright, vivid highlighter colors. Stick with colors that you are comfortable and confident in. Secondly, do not choose patterns that will distract from you and your family’s faces. Simple is always better here. Last of all, avoid clothing that is loose and baggy. Clothes that accentuate your shape will look more flattering in photographs. With these tips, you can be confident in choosing the best outfits for your family’s photo session.
